Eugene Pook

Malaysian born conductor Eugene Pook has earned himself from creating a unique approach to innovative concert programming as well as sold-out concerts which have opened up another facet of classical music like never before. His extensive network with international artists has enabled him to bring world-class concerts to Malaysian shores, performing on stages across the country. His brilliant showmanship and musical creativity have set his concerts apart from the ordinary, earning him much-deserved accolade and recognition from audiences everywhere. Recently in 2012, he was awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Malaysia award by the JCI (Junior Chamber International) for his cultural contribution and achievement in Malaysia. Currently serving as music director and conductor of the Kinta Valley Symphonic Society which he oversees two orchestras - the Perak Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra, Eugene is also artistic director and conductor of the Kuala Lumpur Pops Orchestra, conductor of the Encounter Training Ensemble of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and music director of the PSPA International Ensemble. His guest appearances with conducting with professional orchestras including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Pleven Philharmonic (Bulgaria), and Kuala Lumpur International Festival Orchestra, and others.More.


In addition to producing concerts and conducting orchestras around the world, Eugene pursues his passion in performing as a professional clarinetist. As a winner of the Concerto Competition at the University of Missouri (USA), Eugene's clarinet recital has been much sought after and performed at many prestigious venues such as the Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Malaysia Embassy (Washington DC, USA), and the European Union Embassy (Washington DC, USA). Eugene has also been invited to perform with the New World Symphony Orchestra (USA), American Wind Symphony, Toronto Philharmonic, Kansas City Philharmonia (USA), Northland Symphony Orchestra (USA), Eastman Wind Ensemble (USA), and others.

As a prolific music arranger, his works were performed by the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra, Kings School Ely Brass Band (United Kingdom), Penang State Symphonic Band, Kuala Lumpur International Festival Orchestra, and many others.

Since his return to Malaysia in 2009 and in between his busy work and performance schedules, Eugene devotes much of his time and energy to developing musical appreciation and cultivating talent to the next generation. In a complementary move, he is now the conducting tutor at the University of Malaya and also the advisor of the Youth Circle of Arts (YCA) Malaysia.

Eugene received his musical training and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto, Canada), University of Missouri - Kansas City (U.S.A), and the Eastman School of Music (U.S.A) where the latter he was a double-award recipient.

Eugene has recently joined our Antigua's family with the new Antigua Clarinet (CL3230S). He is satisfied with this new instrument and has performed on it regularly.
